Shape Up for Summer With Our Tips for Fast Results!


The clouds have cleared, the sun is shining, and the temperature is rising! We’re almost afraid that celebrating will jinx it, but we’re willing to take the risk. After a winter that just didn’t want to leave, and weeks where it seemed like the rain would never stop, we’re finally getting to enjoy the spring to summer transition season! No doubt about it, the Lowcountry’s favorite time of year is arriving and soon we’ll all get to enjoy beach days, cookouts, sun-kissed afternoons by the pool, and warm nights under the stars.

Of course, summer is also the time when we worry the most about being in our best shape.  If you’re looking for a little extra boost, or just want to make the results come in a little faster, these tips can help you make the difference.

​Choose the best fuel for your body.

If it were possible for exercise to be the sole determining factor of bathing suit size, no one would be more excited than us! Unfortunately, that’s just not the case. The food we choose (and how much of it we eat) has a huge effect on everything from our mood and energy levels to the snugness of our jeans. There’s no one-size-fits-all perfect diet – so if you haven’t found yours yet, do some experimenting! Some people feel their strongest with high protein/low carb, others swear by low fat vegan, and plenty find moderation and calorie counting to be their best way. If you’ve been dieting for a while and find yourself stuck, don’t be afraid to shake up your routine! And while you want to avoid overeating, it’s also important to make sure you’re eating enough. If you cut down too much, your body will hold onto everything it can get, which may stall your progress. Find your best plan and stick to it!

Consider adding some cardio.

If you only have time in your schedule for one type of exercise, the Barre Evolution Method is your best choice. With it’s full-body approach, the Method builds strength, increases flexibility, and puts you through fat-burning heart rate intervals. However, if you’re looking to increase the speed of your results, raising your heart rate for a sustained period of time on your off days (think running, cycling, walking, swimming, or whatever other activity you prefer) is a great way to build endurance and burn extra calories! Bonus: the endurance increase will help you get work harder in your time at Barre Evolution, and you’ll be able to get even more out of your classes.

Take it to your edge in every class.

If you’ve been attending classes at Barre Evolution regularly for a while, it can be easy to get a little complacent. If you find yourself working in the same place every week, make an effort to consciously challenge yourself with each class you take. Can you hold a pose longer? Raise those heels a little higher? Take it an inch lower? The Barre Evolution Method is designed to adapt with you – as you get stronger, it’s ready to get harder, to give you a new challenge to meet. Work at your own level; just make sure it’s the level you’re at today, not the one you were at last month.

Finally — as always — use your resources!

If something doesn’t feel right, ask an instructor. We purposly schedule our classes 15 minutes apart so you have “private” time with the instructor before and after to get the details right.
